Breathe Insurance Brokers are delighted to receive the STEM blue level certification – an environmental accreditation for businesses working to improve their environmental performance.
The STEM (Steps to Environmental Management) accreditation confirms the green credentials of Breathe and the company’s commitment to the environment.
Benefits Of Green Credentials
Businesses benefit from attaining certification by being able to:
- Â accurately assess and benchmark their carbon performance
- Â reduce their negative impact on the environment
- Â stand out from the crowd as an environmentally sustainable organisation
The STEM scheme also helps prepare businesses for attaining the Carbon Trust Standard, BS 8555 or ISO 14001.
The accreditation scheme is run by South East Carbon Hub and involves attending workshops and using their online resources. STEM has three levels: blue, silver and gold. These levels are compatible with the three phases of the National Standard BS 8555.
Steps To Create An Accredited Environmental Policy
In order to achieve the blue level of STEM, Breathe had to prove:
- Senior management commitment to the Environmental Policy
- Completion of a baseline environmental assessment
- Identification of significant environmental impacts
- Completion of a draft Environmental Policy
- Collection of environmental performance data
Helping Our Business Insurance Clients Be Green
Breathe director, Karen Thomas, attended the workshop in Maidstone, Kent and completed the necessary work in order to attain the certification. Karen said, “Breathe is committed to providing services that are environmentally responsible. Our business insurance clients can be sure that when they use our services, they will have the minimum environmental impact possible.”
Karen added, “Everything we do has a potential environmental impact. Our Environmental Policy states that we will constantly review our working activities and strive to achieve continuous improvement to minimise our impact on the environment. Working towards the STEM Silver Award will be our next step in monitoring and proving this commitment.
